Albertsons, the supermarket chain, announced plans Wednesday that it would be laying off between 2,200 and 2,500 employees across all 247 California and Nevada stores, including three in Redondo Beach. The president of its Fullerton-based Southern California Division said that the step was not easy to take but it was necessary to help improve the business and speed up the turnaround. 

 A company statement said that the layoffs are due to begin June 17 and are likely to be completed by July 1. Only a small number of positions will be directly impacted at any specific store location. The company had reduced staff at its Fullerton store support center, in February. Read more......
