Youth Changing the World One Day at a Time, Transitioning from Conventional to Conscious $15,000 worth of eco prizes to the PGC 2012 Champion

SAN FRANCISCO (Sharewellnewswire.com) September 4, 2012 - Youth led non-profit Teens Turning Green (TTG) is mobilizing high school and college students in the U.S. and around the world to green their lifestyles through Project Green Challenge 2012. PGC is a 30-day eco lifestyle challenge with major support from eBay Green, Natracare, Nature’s Path and Whole Foods Market. Starting October 1st through the 30th participants will take on a challenge a day, each focused on a unique theme aimed at building a powerful, diverse and far reaching movement of change makers. The goal is to inspire youth across the planet to transition from conventional to conscious living by taking small steps that will help sustain a healthy and just world.

Throughout the month of October, daily challenges will be outlined on ProjectGreenChallenge.com and in emails sent each morning to students registered for PGC 2012. Participants will share their responses and experiences on the website and TTG’s social media, acquiring points and prizes throughout the process. Participants that complete the 30-day Challenge can apply for the challenge finals - Green University. Up to 12 finalists will be selected to attend Green University, a three-day eco-summit held in the Bay Area, (Northern California) from November 30 – December 2.

Finalists will be flown to San Francisco where they will work with esteemed eco leaders, present experiences from their 30-day Challenge, and work together to create unique platforms for social action. These platforms will then be implemented by TTG and youth worldwide in 2013. Green University will culminate with the selection of the Project Green Challenge Champion by a panel of judges. The champion will win a uniqueGrand Prize package valued at $15,000, including a $5,000 Green Award from Natracare, a $2,000 Nature’s Path “Get on the Path Ambassador Start Up Kit” including a fold up bicycle, a trip to the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim from Aubrey Organics, $1,000 gift cards from eBay Green, Whole Foods Market, and The Container Store, an Organic Mattress from OMI, head-to-toe eco makeover including clothing, and body care products, along with an awesome selection of eco items to inspire the path to green.

Schrode, along with her mother, TTG founder and Executive Director Judi Shils, and 11 interns spent the summer developing the challenges, partnerships, and an outreach database of schools that numbers more than 5,000. PGC 2011, the inaugural year for this global initiative, saw 2,600+ students sign up to participate, representing 510 campuses, in 48 states and 21 countries. This past year, the TTG team worked with students around the country to build out social action platforms developed at PGC 2011 including a focus on ethical fashion, conscious paper, Green Dorm, sustainable food, and the Right to Know College Road Tour supporting the labeling of GMO food.
